After giving it some thought over Regents Week, I decided against having you do the college writing work. Instead, I will have a packet for you each week. You must:
A. annotate the article, and
B. answer FULLY all the circled questions.
Each packet can be picked up on Tuesday, and returned (all work should be typed and emailed, except for the annotation) by the following Tuesday. You may complete the work on your own, or do so in class, if you need the computer/support.

Moving on
Last night I graded your work on paraphrasing. If you did not send it to me, you currently have a zero for that assignment, and need to complete it ON YOUR OWN TIME. Please realize that working in a chill fashion, giving yourself time to chat, listen to music, write lyrics, etc... will NOT give you enough time to complete your work. You need to step up your game, because I am not going to lower my expectations.
Please open the summarizing PowerPoint. We'll go through it together, and there is an assignment in a Word document for you to complete on your own. This is due TODAY, because tomorrow you're going to work on using these skills in a CEE paragraph.

Article of the week!!!
Have I mentioned the "Article of the Week"? I thought not....
Not all of your credit recovery work will be an online writing assignment; there is also a reading and response component. You will be responsible for reading and responding to six articles of your choice (within certain limits). Instructions for responding to the articles can be found on the "Article of the Week" page.
Turn in the annotated article when you are done. I should have six from each of you by the end of the trimester.
You may choose and print out articles that interest you, from the following sources:
Rolling Stone Magazine, politics section only. http://www.rollingstone.com/politics
The New York Times, any section except sports. www.nytimes.com
The National Review (conservative) http://www.nationalreview.com/
The Nation (liberal) http://www.thenation.com/

Welcome to Credit Recovery!!
Hi! If you're here, it's because you failed English and/or Social Studies during your time at VOYAGES.
For the first time this year, we're doing an online version of credit recovery. This is both a positive and a negative.
First, the positives. Because the class is online, you don't need to sit in Room 216 for four hours a week. You can check in a couple of times a week, check this blog, complete the assignments which are embedded in the PowerPoint presentations, complete your weekly blog post, and do it all from the comfort of your home, the library, the guidance suite, wherever.
Now, the negatives. You STILL need to complete the assignments by the end of the trimester. And, your work needs to be decent. You don't get credit for turning in garbage. So, if you're not self-directed, and you have motivation problems, you might want to come do your work during credit recovery hours (Tues-Thurs, 3;00-4:30)
I'll go into details regarding procedures, but I'm telling you now, all your work must be in Word documents and sent to me as an attachment, and I DO NOT open emails that don't have subject lines that indicate what is in the attachment.
Anyway, cheers, this is going to be AWESOME.
Frances
